US tightens Iran blockade as Qatar-led mediation continues

Qatar is pushing a UN-inspection plan that could reopen Hormuz, and the Saudi and Qatari foreign ministers spoke by phone, their second call in a week. Meanwhile US forces disabled a St. Kitts-flagged cargo ship that tried to leave after visiting an Iranian port. Centcom also created Task Force Iron Gate to block Iran's land and Caspian routes. Explosions were reported on Qeshm, at Jask and elsewhere, though Tasnim says Qeshm's were not missile strikes.

Sunday 8 November

Indirect US-Iran talks via Qatar, Pakistan and China continue while the US tightens its blockade. It disabled a cargo ship overnight and set up a task force to cut Iran's land and Caspian supply routes. Saudi Arabia is also under fire from Houthi missiles in Yemen's war.

Russia's heavy missile strikes on Ukraine are straining Kyiv's Patriot stocks. In Israel, Gadi Eisenkot receives the mandate to form a government today.

Russian barrages strain Ukraine's Patriot stocks as power cuts spread

    added 04:00Russia-Ukraine war · 697 developments

A strike of 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones hit Kyiv energy sites, damaged the Northern Bridge and left five regions without power. Zelensky says only four missiles were shot down because Patriot interceptors are short, and Germany says it cannot supply more for now. Repeat attacks on Saturday cut power to over 60,000 people in Dnipro and killed one in Odesa. Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he will introduce a Ukraine bill.

What X, Reddit and 4chan make of it.

X argued over whether Hormuz is open and whether Iran's two-day claim is real, Reddit blamed Trump's lame-duck blockade and its ego, and 4chan mostly fought over who's a shill while the war thread brawled.

Where they split

X fixated on the Kalshi and Polymarket claims, checking whether the two-day reopening is real and whether it's timed for the midterms. Reddit read the same news as Trump's weakened hand after the midterms, and 4chan turned the MOU and shill claims into a squabble over who's paid to post.

  • Two-day reopening is a midterm fake-out

Iran's claim that Hormuz could reopen within two days is a pre-election stunt or a betting-market pump, and nobody should trust it.

Only 24 comments from two threads, and a large share drifts into a US domestic economy argument, so the camp shares are rough.

Thread is dominated by slurs, shill accusations and off-topic chatter, so many posts were noise and the sample is thin on the war itself.
