US hits Iranian air defences on Qeshm as Qatar urges a deal

A gunman firing from a car on Krakow's Main Square killed six people and wounded about 15, including two police officers, on Saturday afternoon. Police shot and detained the suspect, a Polish citizen who acted alone; he was operated on in hospital. Defence Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz denied reports that he was a soldier. Prime Minister Donald Tusk called it a terrorist attack, and the city declared mourning until Nov 11.

Russia struck energy sites in Kyiv and its region, including the Trypillia power plant, and damaged the Northern Bridge. Zelensky says 36 ballistic missiles hit, damaging substations linking the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear plants to the grid, and only four were downed for lack of Patriot interceptors; Germany says it cannot supply more Patriot systems for now. Chernihiv lost power and Kyiv has heating and water problems. Ukraine hit the Saratov refinery and an Orel plant.

Russia, Ukraine and the US are due to hold trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11, confirmed by Putin, with Umerov leading Ukraine's delegation. Zelensky rejects a US-floated new European security deal with Russia ("no Yalta 2") and says Ukraine won't give up Donbas, and the EU demands a seat. European allies insist Putin must end the war before Russia's concerns are discussed, risking a split with Washington. Trump promises a "big beautiful deal" that he says will affect all of Europe.

Democrats won the US Senate and House and a majority of governorships, though Mississippi's Senate race is still being counted. Trump accepts the results but calls the elections "crooked", and on Saturday ordered the Justice Department to look into Democrats for "threatening" people with impeachment, without giving evidence. The department moved to dismiss its own suit over up to 20,000 California ballots it suspected went to noncitizens.

Herzog has told Eisenkot he will task him with forming a government, with a formal ceremony on Sunday. Eisenkot has recommendations from 67 of 120 MKs against 46 for Netanyahu, who is calling for a "national unity" government. The new Knesset is sworn in on Nov 10. United Torah Judaism welcomed Lieberman's softer line on Haredi conscription but withheld endorsement of Netanyahu, and Shas, which holds the decisive 61st seat, remains reluctant. Eisenkot signals readiness for a minority government.

Settlers were filmed beating a Palestinian man unconscious with clubs overnight in a Masafer Yatta hamlet south of Hebron; no arrests were made. Palestinian officials counted 20 attacks on olive pickers on Friday, and the UN says 377 settler attacks on the olive harvest since September are a record since 2006. Settlers moved into eight houses outside Jericho, displacing dozens. Israel closed Hebron's Ibrahimi Mosque to Palestinians. Herzog warned Netanyahu the West Bank is "highly explosive".
