US pulls diplomats from Saudi Arabia as Iran said to plan attacks

The New York Times reports Iran is in 'advanced stages' of planning attacks against Americans, and that other regional missions are being drawn down; intelligence chief Jay Clayton's memo says Iran has 'substantially increased' efforts to target US personnel. Trump says the US is 'not negotiating' with Iran and may do 'another little Epic Fury'; Iran's President Pezeshkian blames Washington for an interim deal's collapse but urges a new try. The Washington Institute counts 28 Hormuz ship attacks in October, a record.

Saturday 24 October

The US has ordered diplomats and other federal employees to leave Saudi Arabia over intelligence that Iran is planning attacks on Americans, and is drawing down staff at other missions in the region. It comes as Houthi missiles and drones keep targeting Riyadh and eastern Saudi Arabia, and as ship attacks around Hormuz hit a monthly record.

Elsewhere, gunmen killed nine at a church funeral in Jordan, Israel began a multi-day operation in Hebron after two soldiers were killed, Russia hit Kyiv again, and France deployed 70,000 police for a new day of protests. Brazil votes in a presidential runoff on Sunday.

Houthi media says Saudi strikes killed three in Sanaa and five of one family in Hodeidah.

Argued over whether Trump has lost the Iran war

Partisan, trollish, mostly off-topic

Where they split

X mostly played the threat for jokes, market panic and the Epic Fury name, while Reddit treated the Clayton plotting warning as a midterm-timed pretext and 4chan argued over whether the war was won at all. The crowds barely overlapped on the story's substance.
