The day was defined by a widening rift between North American allies as Canada matched President Trump’s 50% tariffs with a $20 billion retaliatory package targeting everything from steel to furniture. The trade war, which began with U.S. threats over border security, has now shifted into a direct economic confrontation, with both nations preparing for long-term disruption to their integrated supply chains.

On the other side of the globe, the U.S. signaled a potential shift in Middle Eastern diplomacy by removing Syria from its state sponsor of terrorism list for the first time in nearly five decades. This move, aimed at re-integrating Damascus into global finance, stood in sharp contrast to the continued escalation against Tehran. While the U.S. expanded its "Operation Economic Outcast" sanctions to target Iran's shadow networks, a mysterious landing of a U.S. military transport plane in Moscow sparked intense speculation about unannounced high-level talks between CIA Director John Ratcliffe and the Kremlin.
